NATIONAL: The Society of Women Engineers’ WE20 virtual conference is slated to take place Nov. 2-13. With over 200 professional development sessions, a four-day career fair, daily yoga, and virtual networking, the not-for-profit educational and service organization aims to provide a platform for women in engineering to gather and make connections with like-minded peers. On Saturday night, the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF) hosted its 14th annual pre-Emmy Awards party virtually. The benefit celebrated Emmy nominees and TV industry professionals while raising funds to support working and retired members of the entertainment community through social services. The event raised $1.5 million and features performances from the likes of John Legend, DJ Cassidy, and Bryan Adams. CHICAGO: EXPO Chicago has announced that its fall program—EXHIBITION weekend—will take place Sept. 25-27. The two-day hybrid initiative will showcase local exhibitions and curated projects with both virtual and in-person gallery tours, discussions, and more. NEW YORK: Served Up, a live outdoor event series, is debuting in New York City on Sept. 30 and running through October. The free, socially-distant, outdoor event will take place at Culture Labs LIC in celebration of individuality, community, and tackling retro-norms. The event will feature local foods and specialty drinks, Q&A sessions, live performances, and the opportunity to shop in Served Up’s digital marketplace curated by small businesses. SAN FRANCISCO: SF Sketchfest postponed its 20th annual comedy festival and announced interim virtual programming that will kick off on Oct. 29 with a live virtual event titled “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” Archive videos from past festivals are available for rent, and updates on additional livestreams will be released in the coming weeks. |
