June is Pride Month.
So I’ve been posting cartoons that support and affirm our LGBTQIA+ friends.
As a result, I’m not only getting messages of gratitude but of horrendous hatred and even vile violence.
Mostly from 'believers'.
I know a lot of people want to share their support publicly but are afraid to because they know the backlash they will receive. The rejection. The hatred. The violence.
We have a choice:
We can remain silent so as not to disturb our peace.
Or… we can continue to speak up.
Here’s what I think:
The more we speak up in support of Pride, the more voices that are raised and heard, then the more our numbers increase, and the more dim the voices of hate become as our voices of love drown them out.
Being a friend to LGBTQIA+ folk and an ally (if you are called one), is not just a pastime. In my opinion, it is an important and necessary effort to overcome the hate that really does exist in this world.
We must raise our voices, no matter what it costs us. We must share the burden because it lightens the load.
It does make the world, slowly but surely, a better place for everyone.
Love is love, and includes all. Our voices must declare this, and we must throw ourselves into the fray.
I think this is the only way the battle for love will be won.
Love wins. And I want to be there when it happens.
Don’t you?
