Pressure ulcer staging is complicated, and coders’ jobs are made more difficult by documentation holes and lack of knowledge of clinical criteria.

Join expert speakers Sarah Humbert, RHIA, and Temeka Davis, RHIT, for this 90-minute webinar as they discuss the challenges of reporting pressure ulcers and the recent related ICD-10-CM coding changes.

The speakers will provide an explanation of the stages of pressure ulcers and injuries and clarify the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel’s definitions so coders can categorize an ulcer even if staging isn’t documented. They will also describe how to accurately assign present on admission codes for pressure ulcers, including ulcers that progress during an inpatient stay.

Agenda highlights include:
  • Pressure ulcer background
  • Explanation of the stages of pressure ulcers/injuries
  • Clinical terminology review
  • Assigning pressure ulcer codes
  • Complications and other conditions that affect pressure ulcer coding
  • Common treatment for pressure ulcers and documentation required for accurate coding
  • Live Q&A
