Over 70 years ago, a young couple opened a small restaurant in the town of Mattoon, Illinois. They called it Burger King, filed for a state trademark and got to work flipping patties. Of course, they had no relation to the world-famous Burger King brand. But they were so protective of their restaurant that they kicked back at the big brand. 👑

When the chain started expanding into Illinois, the couple took it to court … and they won! To this day, the Burger King chain can’t operate within 20 miles of Mattoon. There’s only one Burger King in town — and it’s family-owned!
