Data from Future Forum shows both executives and managers report more stress and dissatisfaction with their jobs and want people back into the office to improve connection, productivity culture, but data also show improvement in those three areas as flexible work options expand. "You have stronger connections with your manager and your colleagues when you're working flexibly because you actually trust one another to do your jobs and productivity -- both in our data as well as we've seen in other data -- has gone up in many companies over the last couple of years," says Sheela Subramanian, the company's vice-president.

A National Bureau of Economic Research working paper found that while the number of jobs considered age-friendly have increased, those jobs are being disproportionately filled by college graduates and women instead of older workers. While the paper noted that employers tend to prefer "high-productivity workers," which younger college graduates are seen as being, no judgment was made on whether ageism was keeping older workers from filling these jobs.

Floppy disks still serve a purpose

Apparently, there's an enduring market for floppy disks. Tom Persky operates a California-based business that sells new and used disks at a clip of about 500 a day. Persky says his clients include people in the tool and die and airline industries, adding that "if you built a plane 20 or 30 or even 40 years ago, you would use a floppy disk to get information in and out of some of the avionics of that airplane." Perksy adds that floppy disks are stable, reliable and mostly immune to hacking. Take that, cloud computing!

LinkedIn is enhancing platform accessibility by adding audio captions for individuals with hearing impairments and high-contrast settings for video content for those with visual challenges. Platform users can also add text descriptions to image ads via the Campaign Manager and search for job titles that also reference accessibility.

Alaska's snow crab harvest canceled

Population figures for these crustaceans that reside in the Bering Sea have plummeted recently, from 11.7 billion in 2018 to an estimated 1.9 billion this year. Warmer sea water brought about by climate change is cited as the chief reason for the decline in snow crabs, which need cold water conditions to survive. In response, Alaska's Department of Fish and Game canceled this season's harvest, saying the focus will turn to "conservation and rebuilding given the condition of the stock."
