Doing Better with Mental Illness

Last week, a firestorm of controversy ignited after a clip of John MacArthur circulated in which the popular pastor dismissed mental illness. “There’s no such thing as PTSD. There’s no such thing as OCD. There’s no such thing as ADHD,” MacArthur said.

Many pushed back, responding with their own experiences and expertise attesting to the fact that mental illness is real indeed. The whole episode highlighted the confusion that often surrounds the topic in the church. Even when we agree that mental illness is real, how do we address it?

J.D. Peabody put that question to a group of leaders and experts on the topic. Whether you struggle with mental illness, or lead people who do, you’ll benefit from their answers. Read The Anxious Church. Also, check out our resource on the topic. This 22-page resource offers wisdom from those who have walked the path and tips on how to minister to the mentally ill.
