| DOJ Green Lights Proposed Outbrain and Taboola Merger | |
| | Good morning, The Department of Justice won’t get in the way of the merger of native advertising giants Taboola and Outbrain, it emerged yesterday with federal authorities apparently placing Big Tech in their crosshairs instead. The development comes at an interesting time in terms of the pairing’s proposed merger, and offers insight to the DoJ’s thinking. All this just a matter of days before the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google are scheduled to appear in front of Congress. For instance, fellow ad-tech pairing Rubicon Project and Telaria were waved straight ahead by authorities earlier in the year and rebranded as Magnite. Google now has to open up about its black box pricing models in ad tech. Not to mention cite comparative minnows as realistic competitors when responding to regulatory authorities in the U.K.–interpretations that elicited much derision from market observers. If you have certain (or uncertain) thoughts on this proposed merger, let me know: sara.jerde@adweek.com. In other news: Need a break? Consider this new way to window shop.
