Dominion asks for 7.75% rate increase

The rate increase, which must be approved by the S.C. Public Service Commission, would increase the average residential electric bill by $9.68 a month, according to the company. The new rates would go into effect in March 2021.

Turbeville surgeon new chair of USC board of trustees

Dr. Charlie Dorn Smith III was unanimously elected to the post on Friday. A member of the board since 2010 and a 1985 graduate of USC's School of Medicine, he replaces outgoing chair John C. von Lehe Jr.

New website addresses students' social emotional learning

The S.C. Department of Education has launched a website providing information and resources designed to foster social emotional learning. The site includes lessons for teachers as well as activities for students and parents. 

Duke foundation contributes $200,000 to equality programs

The Duke Energy Foundation announced the recipients of $200,000 in employee-directed grants to nonprofit organizations in South Carolina committed to social justice and racial equity. The Columbia Urban League received $10,000.
