The Sunday Round-Up | July 11, 2021

Hola! Watching this morning's extensive coverage of Sir Richard Branson’s space launch immediately brought me back to my visit to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (yes, that's really the name of the town). I was fortunate to be one of the first people attending the unveiling of the $209 million Spaceport America. It was an amazing star-studded experience out in the middle of nowhere. See the photos.

It's exciting that Branson made it to the edge of space and I'm happy that Jeff Bezos took the high road by congratulating him and the crew saying, "Can’t wait to join the club!"

Although today seemed like a huge publicity stunt and most people could never afford $200K for the experience, I recognize that the wealthy are paving the way for the rest of us, not unlike how air travel eventually became accessible to the masses. I do hope that Richard’s words come true: “Imagine a world where people of all ages, all backgrounds from anywhere, of any gender, or any ethnicity have equal access to space. And they will in turn, I think, inspire us back here on Earth."

Don't Fall For This Trick Question When You Travel Internationally
This might seem like an easy question but when traveling internationally, many people give the wrong answer. The right answer will prevent you from getting ripped off. Here's what you need to know.

The Mosquito Repeller You Didn't Know You Needed
Last week, I wrote about The Bug Bite Thing, a cool, chemical-free way to remove insect venom once you've already been bitten. It's a handy tool for kids and adults, and also for travelers. But even better? Preventing getting bitten in the first place. Here's how.

Update: Air Canada Sinks To New Low With Their Latest Scam
Last Sunday, I wrote a post about how our not-so-friendly national carrier to the north pulled one of the greatest airline tricks of all time. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. Read the story. Well, I don't know if it was a computer glitch, a chargeback, or whether the folks at Air Canada read my story and did something about it, but I received a refund from AMEX for my seat assignments. Has this ever happened to you?
