Shapel Lacey

Shapel Lacey is a Los Angeles based comedian born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. A diehard punk rocker and former award-winning competitive cheerleader, Shapel found ways to express himself and own his individuality at an early age. Shapel was cheerleading competitively for University of Louisville when someone dared him to take the stage as a comedian and he never looked back, dropping out shortly thereafter to pursue a career in stand up full-time. His unique life experiences such as being adopted by a Caucasian family at age 15, his punk rock mentality, and his stage presence make for a truly original voice in the comedy community. Diligence and the desire to grow led Shapel from the Phoenix open mic circuit onto main stages, where he regularly performed for comedians such as Bill Burr, Hannibal Buress, and Brendan Schaub, and is now headlining clubs across the country. Shapel was selected to be a “New Face” at the 2019 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.

Celebrate the Oscars at the Washington, DC Film Society’s annual “And the Winner Is…” Oscar Night party. You’ll get a whole lot more than just viewing the show: We present the 95th Academy Awards LIVE ON THE BIG SCREEN.

The Motion Picture Academy has celebrated the return of film in a big way to our movie theaters with a quality lineup of films for its 95th Annual Awards and you’ll have a front row seat. All proceeds support Filmfest DC, DC Film Society's parent organization.

We’ll again have DC’s favorite film critics Tim Gordon and Travis Hopson to give you the real lowdown on the nominees. There’s a record for Asian-American nominees, including the first-ever nominated for Best Actress and note the power of two. Two-time Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel returns, there are two “comeback kids” Ke Huy Quan and Brendan Fraser, and the two-highest commercially successful films in the Best Picture category.

Omar Terrell

Omar Terrell has a style that can best be compared to Tracey Morgan, Deon Cole, and Mark Curry. After 8 years of being a standup comedian; Terrell chose to expand his brand into social media and currently has over 350K followers on Facebook and Over 120K followers Instagram & growing. Omar has went viral a few times with his "Baltimore Be Like" & "D.C Be Like" sketches becoming very notable to today's entertainment onlookers.

LaVar Walker

After winning the 2012 national Miller Lite Stand Up comedy competition judged by Kevin Hart, comedian/writer LaVar Walker joined The Shaquille O’Neal All Star Comedy Jam, touring 42 markets and taping a Showtime special as well. In addition to this, he was a finalist for the NBC Diversity Showcase and advanced to the semifinals in NBC’s Last Comic Standing. His other credits include BET’s Comicview, The Mo’Nique Show, and Kevin Hart’s comedy special on the Laugh Out Loud network.

On the scripted front, he produced/ played the lead in the comedy project, The Pharmacist, and can recently be seen as ‘Marty the Manager’ in the Summit Entertainment Feature Film, Uncle Drew.

BACKCOUNTRY Film Festival

Celebrating the connecting between humans and wild winters. A collage of human-powered stories and backcountry-inspired experiences. Backcountry Film Festival ignites wild conversations and inspires action to communities that celebrate the present while looking towards the future.

Every winter, BCFF tours 100+ cities and is hosted by local retailers, grassroots groups, outdoor affinity groups, and many more community organizations. Funds raised stay in the local community to support human-powered recreation and conservation efforts, winter education and avalanche/safety programs and to raise awareness of winter management issues.

The 18th Annual Backcountry Film Festival is screening documentaries and ski movies about athletic pursuit in the mountains, artistic vision, friendship, and how the snowsports community is adapting to a changing environment.

OUR FILM:

Wrong Reason is a completely independent, DIY, feature film written/directed by Josh Roush, produced by Liv Roush, and executive produced by Kevin Smith. The film score was composed by Cameron Mosavian.

SYNOPSIS:

When an ambiguously Intentioned masked man kidnaps the drug addicted front woman of a punk band, it triggers a police investigation as well as a media circus.

THEMES:

Our film deals with addiction, living a life of stardom, the 24 hour news cycle, and what it means to come from a broken home, all seen through the prism of Punk Rock.

Mary Lynn Rajskub

Mary Lynn Rajskub is an actress, comedian and writer, best known for playing ‘Chloe’ on the Fox drama 24 and also ‘Gail the Snail’ from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. You have also seen her in Night School, Safety Not Guaranteed, Wilson, Little Miss Sunshine, Legally Blonde 2, Julie and Julia, Punch Drunk Love, Mysterious Skin, Firewall, Grey’s Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, The Girlfriend Experience, The Larry Sanders Show, Two Broke Girls and Mr. Show. Yannis Pappas

Yannis Pappas is a stand-up comedian, podcaster and TV host. He’s a regular on The Joe Rogan Experience, Tim Dillon Show, Your Mom’s House, 2 Bears 1 Cave, Bad Friends and Tigerbelly. His insanely popular podcast LongDays with Yannis Pappas is available on YouTube and wherever you listen to podcasts. Rich Vos

ABOUT THE LEGEND

Rich Vos’ has four specials on Comedy Central and over 100 television appearances. He has been seen on HBO, HBOMax, Netflix, Showtime and Starz. Rich also produced and starred in the documentary “Women Aren’t Funny”, appeared in Judd Apatows “King of Staten Island." He’s a two time writer for the Academy Awards. Rich hosted Woodstock 99, The Virus Tour, and the Washington Monument Drug Awareness Concert. Vos can be heard on numerous top podcasts such as WTF with Marc Maron, The Church of What’s Happening Now with Joe Diaz, and The Joe Rogan Experience.

Caitlin Peluffo

Originally hailing from San Francisco, Caitlin Peluffo is a stand up comedian living in New York City.  This lovable loose cannon recently made her network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, was featured on the Late Late Show with James Corden, and has been seen on NBC Seeso’s “New York’s Funniest” as well as the Comcast Network as a finalist in the ‘Trial By Laughter Comedy Competition.’ She was named a 2022 Just for Laughs New Face and appeared on JFL Network. She opens regularly for Maria Bamford, Brian Regan, Matteo Lane, and Fortune Feimster. Peluffo is a regular in the NYC comedy scene performing in clubs like The Comedy Cellar, New York Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club, Stand Up NY, and was recently featured in the Caroline’s on Broadway Breakout Artist Series. She has performed in festivals across the country like the Limestone Comedy Festival, Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, Laugh Your Asheville Off, Accidental Comedy Festival, All Jane Comedy Festival, Women in Comedy Festival, Maine Comedy Festival, and was runner up in the Big Sky, Finger Lakes, San Diego, and the Stand Up NY Comedy Competitions.
