Hi John,
Before investing in TinkerLab Schoolhouse, you may have a few questions.
You’re not alone, and other families had questions too.
Given that the October 18 deadline to join TinkerLab Schoolhouse is coming soon, I'll get right to it.
Here are the most popular questions we hear:
“Will this save me time?”
Yes! Saving you time is one of the reasons I created Schoolhouse. I'm a parent and know how valuable and limited your time is (and I often long for more of it myself!). Each week you'll get five activities designed to save you time, not create extra work for you. Yes, you'll have to set them up, but they're designed to be easy for you and won't require a lot of teaching on your part. We'll give you pictures and videos that show you exactly how to do them, plus tips on how to engage your child along the way.
Everything is mapped out for the week, with a complete supply list (sent ahead of time). All you have to do is collect materials, set them up, and invite your child to create.
“What ages is this for?”
Schoolhouse is designed for children ages 3 to 8. Our open-ended activities welcome learners of all ages (even adults...it's true!) and appeal to this wide age range because we focus on process rather than product. Early childhood is an important developmental time for creative and imaginative play, and we want to give our youngest learners every opportunity to explore and invent while exercising curiosity, agency, and imagination.
"Will this work if I have children of different ages?"
If you have older and younger children, Schoolhouse is your one-stop creativity lesson plan. Not only will the open-ended activities work for little kids and big kids, but this offers you the added benefit of only having to set up one project rather than different activities for each child.
For example, Jennifer has children age 5 and 7, and says:

“I've tried other things and wonder if I'll actually use this?”
Maybe you’ve tried other products like books, online classes, or YouTube videos and they haven’t helped you establish the creative habit you’re craving. You start strong and then life gets busy.
We understand this and designed Schoolhouse with a built-in success path that helps you stay on track in three ways:
Weekly Creative Plans: Easy to set up, and designed to save you time, with weekly reminders that keep you motivated and hold you accountable. Community of Support: A built-in Facebook community of families to cheer you on, plus access to TinkerLab educators for questions and support. 4-Stage TinkerLab Journey: Our foundational process that will help you with everything from setting up a maker space to giving you examples of engaging ways to talk with your child about their creative work. |
“How is this different from free art and science projects I can find online?"
Of course you can go this route if it's working for you.
However, if you're tired of collecting random ideas online and want your time back, we'll help by handling the curation process and getting you what you need when you need it. Not only that, in Schoolhouse you'll experience much more than a collection of activities. You'll find a thoughtful curriculum designed to help you build a creative habit with the help of weekly plans, supply lists, simple prompt guides, and a community to support you along the way.
Evelyne has been a Schoolhouse member since the beginning, and shares how it contributes to her family's creative habit:

You'll get all of this for as low as $12 a month. To put this in context, this is the cost of three coffees or two smoothies a month. My kids love smoothies, but if we can make those at home and spend the saving on learning and creative growth, it's an investment I won't regret.
How much would you to pay for a weekly art or science class in your town or city? If it's $15 a week, that's $60 a month. Schoolhouse would be a $48 savings each month, with 20 projects a month.
All of this with the added benefit of supplies and activities in your home that allow your child to practice creative habits at any point in the day.
“Will it be fun and worthwhile?”
If you're like a lot of parents, you might wonder if the TinkerLab activities will engage your child for more than two minutes. We aim to help children play and create independently by giving them room to follow curiosities, explore, and tinker. This intention paves the way for engagement. As the author of three books on childhood creativity and over 20 years of art teaching experience, I'm focussed on ensuring our activities are fun and meaningful.
This mom, and Schoolhouse member, was so happy to see her kids engaged for close to 2 hours!
