Your weekly COVID-19 update Every Tuesday, the Maclean's daily newsletter will catch you up on what you need to know about Canada's fight against the coronavirus. This week, Patricia Treble focuses on one story worth watching, and you can get a sneak peek here. You'll also get the same mix of Maclean's stories you expect every day if you scroll down below. All good things must come to an end. On March 14, 2020, I created the first “curve chart” for Canada, showing the cumulative counts for each province with COVID-19 cases going back to the first, reported in Ontario on Jan. 25. Other countries, especially those in hard hit Europe, were plotting their own curves, but inexplicably there was no such version for Canada. Because the federal government only provided current data, not historical numbers, I had to use the WayBack Machine of the Internet Archive to build the chart for Maclean’s. The chart had a simple purpose: to show in an easily understood format how many cases were being added daily; the flatter the top edge, the fewer cases were being reported over time, hence the “flatten the curve” motto used so many times in this pandemic. Now, however, the chart is being replaced. As the pandemic changed and evolved, I’ve introduced new charts and retired old ones dozens of times. See all the new and improved COVID graphics from me.
