It’s National Farmers Market Week, a time to celebrate farmers markets and take action to promote local farms and fresh food access for all. Right now, you can do that by doubling your support for Foodwise farmers markets and education programs!
Thanks to a generous group of donors—including John and Lolita Casazza, Vicente Mendoza, Carlo Pellegrini, Volcano Kimchi, and other friends of Foodwise—all donations to our Back to School, Back to the Farmers Market campaign up to $5,000 will be matched through August 14.
- $50 x 2 = Fresh produce from the farmers market for 2 Foodwise Kids cooking classes
- $100 x 2= 2 stipends for a Foodwise Teens high school student’s first job at the farmers market
- $250 x 2= Supplies for a Foodwise Kids & Families hands-on cooking class
- $500 x 2= A life-changing semester of gardening, cooking, and working for 2 Foodwise Teens students
“Our students come from different neighborhoods, so some of them may not have the access to the farmers market as an option in their mind,” says SFUSD Wellness Policy Manager and Foodwise Board Director Saeeda Hafiz. “The Foodwise Kids program takes kids through the farmers market step-by-step to say, ‘This market is also for you.’”
