Dow plunges 480 points as election, overseas coronavirus lockdown worries mount

U.S. equity markets were sharply lower Monday as investors weighed the possibility of more coronavirus shutdowns in Europe and uncertainty surrounding the U.S. election. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 480 points, or 1.74%, in the opening minutes of trading while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were both lower by 1.4%.
