Meanwhile, voters in two Maine towns will decide the fates of housing projects at a time when communities across the state grapple with a shortage of quality and affordable housing.

In Augusta, lawmakers will consider a slate of new gun policies. But the evidence on the effectiveness of those Democratic-backed proposals is limited in some cases and in others inconclusive.

The fallout from the abandoned Flagpole of Freedom Park continues. Columbia Falls is stuck with a six-figure bill for planning costs related to the Worcester family project. The Worcester family business also serves as the landlord for the town office and the snowplowing contractor. But officials may end one of those arrangements.

Last year, Orono spent about $110,000 renovating its community pool. Despite those major renovations, the town may have to spend another $150,000 so families can cool off this summer.
