Sample bylaws language: Setting a responsibility to proctor

Most medical staffs and healthcare organizations have found it challenging to find physicians willing and available to proctor colleagues. In hospital settings, many medical staffs overcome these barriers by making proctoring an obligation of staff membership. Usually, this is facilitated by a clause in the medical staff bylaws indicating that all staff members must assist in the peer review activities of the organization. Proctoring is then considered one such peer review activity. This sample bylaws language can be tailored to your organization's proctoring needs.

Although the record of care, treatment, and services did not receive a place in the top 10 Requirements for Improvement from The Joint Commission in 2018, the medical record continues to be the road map for surveys, and diligent record review is important for survey compliance, patient care, responding to complaints/legal issues, and payment for services rendered.
