Sample credentials file summary of adverse or potentially adverse issues

MSPs should know how to identify and address red flags during the initial credentialing and recredentialing processes to avoid potential risks in important areas. Reduce such risks by paying attention to application details, identifying areas of concern and red flags, and following your credentialing policies and procedures. Use this form for documenting red flags or other issues that require further follow-up with the practitioner, as defined in your credentialing policies and procedures. Enclose the completed form in the applicant’s file for key stakeholders’ consideration throughout the vetting process.

Long-term leadership: Keep new leaders motivated

There is a trend around the country to lengthen the terms of office for important medical staff positions. This is to promote continuity and to give leaders a change to grow into their roles. In many organizations, this is compounded by linking positions serially into a continuum of responsibility. For example, a president-elect becomes president and subsequently immediate past-president. The upside of this trend is apparent, but the downside is a disinclination for new leaders to embark on the prolonged path.

Require employees to perform mobile device security—or take it out of their hands

Gaps in mobile security remain a threat to your protected health information (PHI) and leave you vulnerable to HIPAA violations, so train and, if necessary, limit employee use to reduce the risk.

New Platinum Plug Webinar: Assessing competency & credentialing concerns in early- & late-career practitioners

Medical staff leaders are obligated to assess each practitioner’s capacity to perform all requested privileges. Yet, who wants to tell a colleague that his or her ability to care for patients may be waning with age? To avoid singling out practitioners, some medical staffs have begun implementing policies that spell out stricter vetting and monitoring processes for older practitioners. Other medical staffs worry that these policies themselves are what single out the practitioners in question. During this 90-minute webinar, attendees will receive guidance to determine if an age-related policy is right for their organizations, identify resources for fitness-for-duty screenings, and discuss legal issues that could arise from over-vetting or under-vetting late-career practitioners.
