Disclose potential conflicts of interests

All acute-care hospitals should have policies regarding conflicts of interests. Make certain that every person covered by your facility's conflicts of interests policy submits in writing to the chief executive officer a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement listing all financial and/or potential conflicting interests.

Sample meeting planning guide

Effective meeting management is the result of a skillful blending of diplomacy and proven management skills and techniques. For each meeting, physician leaders should be well prepared and identify reasonable objectives and emphasize the importance of the committee or department’s contributions to the organization. Never go into a meeting without an agenda and a plan. Download this sample meeting planning guide.

Case study: New provider orientation at IU Health Bloomington

Since June 2018, the medical staff services department at Indiana University (IU) Health Bloomington Hospital has conducted a well-received new provider orientation (NPO) program. NPO is scheduled every Monday and Tuesday and canceled when it is not needed. Leaders are responsible for making sure they have assigned a colleague who is prepared to present or escort the provider in a leader’s absence.

New medical staff provider orientation agenda

Creating an agenda for new provider orientation ensures that providers meet with the proper people and departments and spend an adequate amount of time with each service before being thrown into the thick of treating patients. This sample agenda was created by Indiana University (IU) Health Bloomington Hospital as it recreated its new provider orientation program.
