Downtown parking demand remains high, even in pandemic

A recent report found parking in downtown Columbia is in demand even as more employees work from home. The city’s overall parking garage occupancy rate dropped slightly to 81.62% in the second quarter of 2020 from 83.86% in Q2 of 2019.

Pandemic brings financial concerns into focus

A Columbia-based financial advisor recommends giving each dollar an assignment as a way to keep household budgets on track. Prudential’s Rosalyn Glenn also says the pandemic exposed a general lack of preparedness. 

S.C. part of $85M, multistate Honda airbag settlement 

South Carolina will receive $3.63 million of the settlement, reached over allegations that the automobile company concealed defects in frontal airbag systems. Ruptures have resulted in 14 deaths and more than 200 injures in the U.S.

Clemson to furlough employees starting Sept. 1

Clemson University will be furloughing employees until the end of the calendar year in response to the economic impact of COVID-19. The furlough period follows a hiring freeze and other cost-reduction measures.
