January 2019

The Outlawz are a group of incredible, young First Nations artists from the Murrawarri, Budjidi community of Enngonia NSW. Pridelands is a blues-inspired, funky, dusty number written to celebrate country, community, resilience, family and the irrepressible sense of humour that lives in the community of Enngonia.  This song is about pride, culture, history and strength – co-written and collaboratively created to articulate an important, inter-generational conversation about social change. The group has evolved from a storytelling project with local Elders from Enngonia, funded by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), project managed by WasteAid and facilitated/directed by DPM. Pridelands was launched on the 24 January.
We're very excited to be sharing with you a DPM special feature length doco ‘Break It Down/Community Conversations Around Mental Health'. The documentary charts our work earlier this year in partnership with the Western NSW Primary Health Network. The film is a real insight into our work across six communities in Western NSW...in Orange, Bathurst, Cowra, Condobolin, Wellington and Walgett and shows the nuts and bolts of DPM process and the incredible outcomes of our work in each community around mental health.

“There’s power in my ancestry, this saltwater and sunshine. My Elders held this destiny, these rights and sacred sites. Gonna redefine my history and take darkness into light.” These are some of the lyrics from the new DPM track we shot in December on Yaegl Country with young people from Maclean High School. It was truly an honour to share, learn and create with such an incredible community, on this beautiful country. Thanks to the Yulgilbar Foundation for funding this project.

"I wrote this beat in the Tiwi Islands.  When the sun goes down it gets very dark and the moon can be your only light. All the sounds from the animals and spirits on this amazing island inspired me to make this beat. Its dark and can bring out your deep raps."
