Dredging up Louisiana's dark history of slavery.

The rich earth along the Mississippi River hasn't forgotten its past. The land was home to some of Louisiana's largest plantations, where thousands of enslaved people toiled and died. Most were buried in unmarked or poorly marked graves.

Now that same land is the site of many major industrial projects. And those projects keep encountering potential burial grounds.

This is a deep dive into how the projects dredged up a dark part of our state's history.
