Cruise woes continue as key figures quit robotaxi firm

A new CEO for Cruise has yet to be announced

Cruise co-founder Daniel Kan has quit the beleaguered autonomous car company, Reuters reported on Monday.

His departure as chief product officer came a day after Cruise co-founder and CEO Kyle Vogt announced he was leaving the company that the pair set up 10 years ago.

The significant upheaval follows a string of safety-related incidents involving its driverless cars during testing on the streets of San Francisco, the same city where the General Motors-backed startup is headquartered.

The most serious of these happened in San Francisco in October when a Cruise car came to a halt on top of a woman shortly after she’d been hit by a human-driven vehicle.

Vogt didn't say why he was leaving but said he plans to spend time with his family and explore new ideas, adding that he's excited to see what Cruise comes up with next ...

California schools to teach students how to spot fake news

The media literacy content will be included in English language arts, mathematics, science, history, and social science curriculums.

“Teaching media literacy is a key strategy to support our children, their families, and our society,” said Assemblymember Marc Berman (D-Menlo Park), adding: “We have a responsibility to teach the next generation to be more critical consumers of online content and more guarded against misinformation, propaganda, and conspiracy theories” ...

Why I can't wait for Apple to finally make a smart ring

The tech giant has done well with its smartwatch. But what if it made a smart ring, too?

These days, when someone thinks of a “fitness tracker” or “wearable tech,” the first thing that you probably think of is a smartwatch, like the Apple Watch Series 9. It’s pretty fantastic, after all; slap it on your wrist, and you not only get your notifications and apps, but you get 24/7 health and fitness tracking.

But there are other ways to wear your health tech. One of the rising categories is smart jewelry, specifically smart rings. One of the most popular smart rings that you might have heard of is the Oura Ring, which I also wear alongside my Apple Watch Ultra.

However, as much as I like my Oura Ring, a big flaw of it is that it requires a premium subscription to see any valuable information. But what if Apple were to enter the market of smart rings ...
