We are pleased to announce the official relaunch of our WASTE newsletter. As we go forward, we will be sharing regular news, insights and learnings with you, our valued supporters and partners.

Across our multi-stakeholder programmes and alongside our local partners, we have been busy catalysing solutions some of the world’s most pressing plastic waste, sanitation and water challenges. Join us as we look back at 2023 in our latest Impact Report, a year which marked four decades of WASTE creating cleaner, healthier communities. An amazing 40 years to celebrate, learn from and build on as we pave the way for the next chapter of impact. In 2023 alone, we saw 2.1 million people leading healthier lives as a result of:

🚽 Facilitating the construction of 425,784 safely managed sanitation systems

♻ Recycling and collecting 31,966 additional tonnes of solid waste (including plastics)

💧 Leveraging €157 million in WASH and solid waste investments

🌍 Leading three multi-stakeholder programmes across six countries

Business showcase

Providing capacity building to local businesses is a key part of all our work. We believe they play a vital role in creating sustainable system change. Today we introduce you to Spouts of Water who, from humble roots in a chicken shed, has sustainably grown to become the largest ceramic water filter producer in Africa with the help of investment leveraged through our Take-a-Stake initiative.

Improving livelihoods in India

Meet Sugna, an informal waste worker (IWW) in Udaipur, who plays a vital role in plastic waste management. Today Sugna is a member of a FINILOOP self-help group where IWWs are empowered to share their ideas and given training on how to improve their work opportunities and access financing. Gradually this means many IWWs are able to access more dignified job opportunities and save money.

Nature-based solutions

As populations continue to grow, more and more wastewater is being generated, which too often ends up polluting the environment and causing serious health issues due to inadequate wastewater treatment systems.
