Dear friends, I want to wish a very happy Mother’s Day to every mom across our great state. Your dedication, love, and hard work is so inspiring, whether your kids are old enough to tell you or not. This day holds a very special place in my heart. If you’ve ever heard my story, you’ve heard of my mother, Frances Scott. A true American hero, she is the reason why I am here today. As a single mom, she worked 16-hour shifts as a nursing assistant to keep food on our table. And she still found the time to guide and encourage my brother and me. My freshman year of high school, I focused more on football than my academics, and I failed several classes. I often wonder where I would be if I had stayed on that path. But thankfully, my mother believed that I was capable of much more than what she saw on my report card. Through love (and a Southern apparatus of encouragement, known as a "switch") she ensured that I got back on track, and the rest is history. I know many of you are making similar sacrifices for your children each day, and we are forever indebted to you. I hope my story is an encouragement and reminder of just how much your work matters. This Mother’s Day will certainly be different due to the challenges of COVID-19, but in times like these, we are reminded of your strength more than ever! You have taught us what it means to stand strong in the face of difficulty. So once again, happy Mother’s Day to my mom and to all the moms out there. We could not do it without you. Sincerely, Tim |
