Dear fellow South Carolinians, Thank you for subscribing to my weekly e-newsletter, and please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Opportunity Tour: North Carolina Earlier this month, I joined North Carolina Congressman Mark Walker to tour Opportunity Zones in Greensboro, NC. This marked the 11th stop on my nation-wide Opportunity Tour. Our day included a stop at North Carolina A&T University, the nation’s largest HBCU, where we joined university and community leaders in a discussion on the Opportunity Zone legislation. We also toured Core Technology, a local business located in an opportunity zone. It was wonderful to see the success they have achieved all while expanding access to quality jobs for those who live in the community. You can read more about my tour here. Celebrating National Police Week Last week, I had the honor of meeting with many law enforcement officers from around the country as we celebrated National Police Week. During this special week, and every other week of the year, may we honor those who serve our communities selflessly and remember those who fell in the line of duty. To officers and their families everywhere, thank you for your service and sacrifice! HUD CO Announcement This morning, HUD announced $5 million will be made available for the purchase and installation of carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in public housing units where they are necessary. This is great news. After talking with Secretary Carson and his team over the past few months, I am excited to see these concrete steps being taken to ensure the safety of families across South Carolina and the nation. My team and I will continue to work with HUD regarding any additional steps that need to be taken on this critical issue. You can read my full statement and HUD’s full announcement here. Sincerely,
