When it rains, it pours, and we got a monsoon of injuries Sunday that might fundamentally alter how your Fantasy season goes. The Jets lost Breece Hall to what is feared to be a torn ACL, while star wide receivers Mike Williams and DK Metcalf had to be carted to the locker room with lower body injuries of their own. After the game, reports from the Chargers locker room suggested Williams could barely put any weight on the injured leg. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said initial X-rays on Metcalf's knee were negative and that he would undergo further testing on Monday.
And those weren't the only injuries we're going to be tracking coming out of Sunday's games. Not by a long shot. Before we get to the early look at the waiver wire for Week 8 in today's newsletter, let's run through all of the injuries you need to know about, with Hall looking like the obvious headline -- and with Michael Carter potentially emerging as a must-start Fantasy option who is pretty widely available in CBS Fantasy leagues.
We were worried Hall's injury was a serious one when he had to be carted to the locker room, and Robert Saleh all but confirmed those fears after the game, telling reporters the team believes Hall suffered an ACL injury. Testing Monday will be done to confirm the diagnosis, but it sure looks like Hall's promising rookie season is coming to a premature end, and that's a huge bummer -- I was just talking with someone Sunday afternoon about the possibility of Hall working his way into the No. 1 overall pick discussion for next season, and now it's entirely possible he won't even be ready for Week 1.
Michael Carter is going to be the top target on waivers in the 38% of CBS Fantasy leagues where he's available. There aren't as obviously beneficiaries to the injuries suffered by Metcalf and Williams, so hopefully, those won't end up being as serious. You can read about those injuries and the rest of the ones we're tracking coming out of Sunday's games here, including:
  • Amon-Ra St. Brown (concussion)
  • Allen Lazard (shoulder)
  • Chuba Hubbard (ankle)
  • David Njoku (ankle)
Here's who I'm looking at coming out of Sunday's action:
Top targets:
  1. Gus Edwards, RB, Ravens (53% rostered)
  2. Michael Carter, RB, Jets (62%)
  3. D'Onta Foreman, RB, Panthers (64%)
  4. Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, Giants (39%)
  5. Parris Campbell, WR, Colts (4%)
