Or, worse yet, suggesting super high tip percentages at places you’d have never dreamed of tipping a decade ago? | You’re not alone. “Tipflation” is real, according to the Pew Research Center. Nearly three-quarters of Americans surveyed (72%) say expectations of tipping have spread to more places in the last five years. | You know those restaurants that force automatic service charges for groups of a certain size? Well, 72% of Americans oppose that. And nearly twice as many oppose businesses suggesting tip amounts to customers (40%) as those that support it (24%). | As much as tipping can seem like an affront, most of us just want to know what to do.
