In New Orleans, food is entertainment. Here are picks from the NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune food team for eating and drinking events this week and the weeks ahead.
WEDNESDAY (Nov. 23)
Taste Sauternes - Hopper's Carte des Vins (5601 Magazine St.) will offer free tastes of 2006 Chateau la Tour Blanche Sauternes from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Half bottles of the sweet, rich and divine wine are on sale for $40.
FRIDAY (Nov. 25)
Food Truck Fridays - The lunch-time series of food truck round-ups concludes at the Riverwalk's Spanish Plaza. This week, the trucks are Mr. Choo, Fete au Fete, Crepes a la Cart and the Petit Rouge coffee truck. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sippin Santa's Surf Shack - Latitude 29 (321 N. Peters St.) rolls out a special menu of Christmas cocktails, which will also be served at New York's Boilermaker and Chicago's Lost Lake. Each bar contributed three drinks to the celebratory list, which are finished with seasonally appropriate garnishes. The menu will be offered through Dec. 24
Correction: Sippin Santa's Surf Shack actually starts Dec. 1.

Dec. 6 - Spice master Lior Lev Sercarz, author of "The Spice Companion," will host a family-style meal at Shaya (4213 Magazine St.). $150. The price includes drinks and a copy of the book. Reservations can be made online at www.shopalonshaya.com.
Dec. 8 - Tales of the Toddy, hosted by Tales of the Cocktail, lets New Orleans bartender show off their skills mixing holidays drinks.
Jan. 7, 2017 - Link Stryjewski Foundation's Bal Masque with music from Dr. John and food from chefs such as Paul Kahan, John Currence and Suzanne Goin. See www.balmasque.linkstryjewski.org for tickets.
