Check out the Museum of Food and Drink’s Newest Exhibition, 'Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant' | ||||
It’s the most mouthwatering ticket in New York right now: Tickets for the Museum of Food and Drink’s newest exhibition, Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant, are on sale now. Chow, created in collaboration with INFINITI,celebrates the birth and evolution of Chinese American cuisine, tracing its incredible 170-year history and sparking conversation around immigration, cultural identity, and what it means to be American. With chef-designed tastings, live demos of a fortune cookie machine, and a beautiful collection of artifacts, Chow is a delicious dive into one of the country’s most beloved cuisines. Exhibit highlights include: Menu Timeline Immerse yourself in a stunning timeline of Chinese American restaurant menus dating back to 1910. Beautifully designed and lovingly curated by MOFAD, these artifacts show the evolution of the cuisine, decade by decade. Chow Culinary Studio MOFAD partnered with six top Chinese American chefs to design tastings that showcase the culinary techniques of Chinese American food. Best of all — their dishes will be served at the Chow Culinary Studio for all visitors to enjoy. In November, sample Yunnanese homestyle mushrooms and country ham from Northern Tiger's Doron Wong; in December honey walnut shrimp from Jonathan Wu of Fung Tu; and in January, tofu with crab sauce from Jeremiah Stone of Contra/Wildair. Project Fortune The fortune cookie may be one of the most familiar aspects of a Chinese American meal — it’s a message in a bottle, with a cookie as a medium. Project Fortune makes it a participatory, edible experiment, rooted in a belief in the kindness of strangers. Chow will feature a continuously operating 1,500-pound fortune cookie machine, where visitors can pluck fortune cookies off a conveyor belt and enjoy them still hot from the oven. But what’s even cooler — you can submit your own fortune to live inside these cookies. MOFAD will solicit and curate fortunes from around the globe to live in the thousands of fortune cookies served throughout the run of the exhibition. Submit your fortunes at projectfortune.mofad.org or via Twitter @mofad using #projectfortune.
