Dear Yogi, Nature is incredibly clever – it gives us exactly what we need, when we need it. Humans have eaten seasonally since the dawn of time; foraging for berries and roots in Autumn and Winter, and enjoying leafy greens and fresh fruits in the Spring and Summer. Eating in this way helped our ancestors develop a diverse microbiome, healthy digestion, strong immune system, and even protected them from issues like sunburn and flu. Today, with access to foods shipped from around the world all year round, most of us have deviated from this natural menu. When we choose to eat foods that aren’t in season, we become disconnected from nature and out of alignment with the seasons.
