FROM THE MEDIA Reuters: Next ECB move should be a cut, but first 'enjoy' the plateau The European Central Bank (ECB)'s next move should be a lowering of interest rates but the ECB should "enjoy the view" for a while, French central bank chief Francois Villeroy de Galhau said, implying a rate cut was not imminent. As reported by Reuters, his comments come a day after the ECB pushed back against bets on imminent rate cuts, telling financial markets that inflation could soon rebound and price pressures remain strong. Read more Bloomberg: ECB keeps banks guessing in test of cyber attack The European Central Bank (ECB) has told lenders to brace for a test of how they would respond to a cyber attack unprecedented in its severity. Still, banks will have to wait until next month for the ECB to share the details of the hypothetical attack, said the people familiar with the matter heard by Bloomberg. FROM THE INSTITUTIONS ECB: NGFS climate scenarios for the euro area: role of fiscal and monetary policy conduct The European Central Bank (ECB) analyses the sensitivity of the macroeconomic outcomes under the Network for Greening the Financial System’s (NGFS’s) Phase III net-zero and delayed transition scenarios to different monetary and fiscal policy settings. Read more ESMA: Recommendations on digitalization of retail investment services The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published a discussion paper on the digitalization of retail investment services and related investor protection considerations. ESMA is seeking stakeholders' input by 14 March 2024 on recommendations regarding online disclosures, digital tools, and marketing practices. Read more EBA: Roadmap on the implementation of the EU Banking Package The European Banking Authority (EBA) published its roadmap on the Banking Package, which implements the final Basel III reforms in the EU. The EBA roadmap aims at strengthening the prudential framework as well as ensuring an international level playing field. It also aims at providing clarity to the industry on how it will develop the mandates implementing the legislation, and how it expects to finalise the most significant components ahead of the application date, on 1 January 2025.
