New material available for managing UFIs in poison centre notifications

Have a look at our new infographic that helps companies ensure that the Unique Formula Identifiers (UFIs) included in their poison centre notifications are correct.

The UFI is the key for poison centres to give accurate information fast. Using wrong UFI makes it difficult for poison centre operators to do their job effectively and companies may face regulatory non-compliance and enforcement actions. 

New proposals to harmonise classification and labelling

Four proposals have been submitted for:

• N,N'-hexane-1,6-diylbis[2,2-dimethyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)propan-1-imine] (EC -, CAS 1217271-49-2);
• 2,2-dimethyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)propanal (EC -, CAS 23588-51-4);
• Reaction products of 2,2-dimethyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)propanal and propylidynetrimethanol, propoxylated, reaction products with ammonia (EC 700-879-7*, CAS -); and
• N-[3-({[2,2-dimethyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)propylidene]amino}methyl)-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexyl]-2,2-dimethyl-3-(morpholin-4-yl)propan-1-imine (EC -, CAS 1217271-02-7).

*List number, assigned by ECHA, is exceptionally given to help find this substance in the Registry of Intentions.

Consultations on harmonised classification and labelling

We are looking for comments on the harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposals for:

• allyl glycidyl ether; allyl 2,3-epoxypropyl ether; prop-2-en-1-yl 2,3-epoxypropyl ether (EC 203-442-4, CAS no. 106-92-3);
• butyl glycidyl ether; butyl 2,3-epoxypropyl ether (EC 219-376-4, CAS  2426-08-6);
• (tert-butoxymethyl)oxirane (EC 231-640-0, CAS 7665-72-7) and (isobutoxymethyl)oxirane (EC 223-303-1, CAS 3814-55-9);
• Bis(pentane-2,4-dionato)calcium (EC 243-001-3, CAS 19372-44-2);
• sodium chlorite (EC 231-836-6, CAS 7758-19-2); and
• resorcinol; 1,3-benzenediol (EC 203-585-2, CAS 108-46-3).

List of notifications updated

We have updated the list of substance and product-type combinations for which a compliant notification for inclusion in the Review Programme has been made.

The list also includes the names of the notifying companies to help you collaborate when submitting an application for approval of the active substance and to help avoid unnecessary testing on animals.

Inspections to check poison centre notifications

The enforcement inspectors are checking if duty holders have notified hazardous mixtures to the national authorities. They are also verifying labels of mixtures and, where needed, safety data sheets. 

The poison centres must be provided with the correct information about hazardous mixtures to ensure that the emergency response is well informed and appropriate. 

Inspections started in January 2025 and will continue for six months. This pilot project’s report is planned to be published at the end of 2025.

Enforcement of chemical products sold online

During 2025, the national enforcement authorities in the EU will check how well substances, mixtures and articles sold online comply with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation, as well as with restrictions under the REACH and POPs Regulations and RoHS Directive.
 
Inspectors will also check the requirements of the Digital Services Act, Market Surveillance Regulation or the General Product Safety Regulation. They will target all types of online markets and traders during the inspections.

Biocides inspectors checking summary of product characteristics and elements of safety data sheet

Inspectors participating in the EU-wide enforcement project on biocidal products will control the use of information from the summary of product characteristics in the product labels and the safety data sheets.
 
The goal of the project, that will run during 2025, is to harmonise the enforcement of this information in the biocidal products available in the EU market.
