New substance evaluation conclusion published for CoRAP substance

• Diuron (EC 206-354-4, CAS 330-54-1), was added to the Community rolling action plan (CoRAP) list in 2014 and evaluated by Finland.

New intentions to identify a substance of very high concern 

New intentions have been received for: 

• tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched) phosphite (EC 701-028-2, CAS -); and
• 6-[(C10-C13)-alkyl-(branched, unsaturated)-2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl]hexanoic acid (EC 701-118-1, CAS 2156592-54-8).

European Commission decisions on applications for authorisation

The Commission has granted a total of four authorisations for three uses of chromium trioxide and one use of bis(2-methoxyethyl)ether.

The Commission has also granted two partial authorisations for one use of chromium trioxide and one use of sodium dichromate.

One intention has been submitted for:

• ethyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate [1];2-ethylhexyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate [2];padimate; 3-methylbutyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate [3] (EC -, CAS -).

Three proposals have been submitted for:

• Napropamide; N,N-diethyl-2-[(naphthalen-1-yl)oxy]propanamide (EC 239-333-3, CAS 15299-99-7);
• trifluoroacetic acid .… % (EC 200-929-3, CAS 76-05-1); and
• sodium trifluoroacetate [1]; other inorganic salts of trifluoroacetic acid [2] (EC -, CAS -).

Biocides

European Commission decisions on Union authorisations

The Commission has granted a Union authorisation for:

• the biocidal products family 'Saniswiss H2O2';
• the biocidal products family 'STERI-PEROX'; and
• the biocidal products family 'Sure Lactic Family'.

The Commission has also amended a Union authorisation due to administrative and minor changes for:

• the biocidal product family 'DEC-AHOL® Product Family'.

Registration open: Contract research organisation days

We will host Contract research organisation days on 19-20 November 2024 in Helsinki.

As we are committed to reducing vertebrate animal testing, preventing duplicate testing and refining the methods currently used, we aim to establish an open discussion between contract research organisations performing animal studies and our regulatory scientists assessing those studies.

You can now download an updated version of Chesar, ECHA's chemical safety assessment and reporting tool. Chesar 3.9 is fully compatible with the latest version of IUCLID (6.8).

Nanopinion: NAM-based hazard assessment of nanocellulose

The column describes how advanced New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) can be used to evaluate nanocellulose's intestinal uptake, local effects and colonic fate.

The authors also underline the need for rigorous regulatory assessments, paving the way for further research under EFSA's NAMS4NANO project to enhance nanoscale safety evaluations.
