Highlights from November RAC and SEAC meetings The Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) adopted its opinion supporting France’s proposal to restrict creosote and related substances. The Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) adopted eight opinions on harmonised classification and labelling. One of these concerns tea-tree oil, where the committee recommends adding reproductive toxicity as the most stringent classification.

Council and Parliament reach provisional agreement on CLP regulation The Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the regulation for the classification, labelling and packaging of chemicals (CLP regulation). This regulation updates the existing 2008 EU legislation and aims to clarify the rules on labelling chemical substances and the required information for chemicals sold online. Call for experts The European Commission is looking for independent experts on the chemicals sector to join its Advisory Committee on Public Health Emergencies. The call closes on 15 December 2023. Consultation on PFOS limits under the POPs Regulation The European Commission is looking for comments on a draft delegated act to amend the entry for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and its derivatives in Annex I of the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation.
This measure will reduce the maximum PFOS concentration allowed as unintentional trace contaminant in substances, mixtures and articles and remove the last specific exemption in the EU.
