Three hazardous chemicals added to the Candidate List

The Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHC) now contains 250 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment. Companies are responsible for managing the risks of these chemicals and giving customers and consumers information on their safe use.

Two newly added substances are very persistent and very bioaccumulative. They are used, for example, in cosmetics, personal care products and in automotive care products. One substance is toxic for reproduction and is used in textile treatment products and dyes.

Virtual assistant to support stakeholders

We are testing an AI-based virtual assistant on our support pages to improve navigation and access to relevant information. We are currently testing this initial version for accuracy and relevance.

We invite stakeholders to explore the assistant and provide feedback directly through the platform to help us enhance the service.

Learnings and recommendations for further work on petroleum and coal stream substances

The Petroleum and Coal stream Substances (PetCo) Working Group recently published its learnings and recommendations for further work on PetCo substances, with focus on regulatory risk management.

Regular meetings of the PetCo Working Group have been paused since the end of 2024. Work on these substances is now part of existing regulatory processes.

The PetCo Working Group brought together Member State competent authorities, the European Commission, ECHA, and industry stakeholders to discuss and coordinate activities on these substances since 2015.

ECHA and EU-OSHA strengthen cooperation on chemical safety

We have signed an updated cooperation agreement with the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) to enhance the health and safety of workers.

The two agencies will work together to protect workers through cooperation on regulatory science, provision of policy support and collaborating on stakeholder engagement. They will exchange information and consult each other on topics related to EU chemicals laws and protection of workers’ health and safety.

Assessment of regulatory needs reports published

Reports for the following substance groups are now available on our website:

Vinylsilanols precursors;Barium and its simple compounds;Phosphorus, its oxides, chlorides, sulfides and salts of phosphoric acids with counterions of low hazard;Alkoxy (phenyl and chlorinated alkyl) and chlorinated chloro alkyl silanes;Chlorophenyl imidazole/triazole derivatives; andAzohydroxynaphtoic acid pigments.

Enforcement

Updated compendium of analytical methods for enforcing REACH restrictions

Our Enforcement Forum has updated its compendium of analytical methods to help authorities to enforce and companies to comply with REACH restrictions.

The compendium consists of a collection of methods that are used, for example, in official laboratories supporting EU enforcement authorities. In the future, it will be updated and expanded more frequently.

The compendium contributes to harmonised enforcement of REACH throughout the EU.
