Living a Life of Presence
Each month we will highlight a teaching or practice from Eckhart's featured talk. We encourage you to join us in focusing on this practice for the month. |
 |
In October’s featured talk, Eckhart discusses the importance of self-observation—or “the ability to observe nonjudgmentally what goes on inside you.” As Eckhart explains, self-observation is both an essential part of the awakening of human consciousness and integral to creating beneficial changes in the outer world. As Presence deepens in our lives, so does our capacity for self-observation.
This month, we invite you to pay special attention to your inner state through the practice of self-observation. Especially when you find yourself in situations that tend to trigger thinking or reactivity, see if you can maintain some degree of awareness where you might ordinarily be drawn into your thought stream. Remember Eckhart’s frequent advice to take “one conscious breath” and bring your attention to the reality of the present moment. In this way we can break free from reactive patterns and access wisdom beyond the thinking mind. |
