Xpress Reviews WEB-FIRST REVIEWS OF BOOKS AND MEDIA This week's starred fiction title is Sherry Thomas's A Conspiracy in Belgravia, book two in the "Lady Sherlock" series. "The unexpected cliff-hanger will have readers (even astute ones) gasping (and grinning) in recognition. A must for mystery/Sherlock fans and readers who love excellent puzzles." In nonfiction, Bernd Brunner's Birdmania: A Remarkable Passion for Birds is "flawed but nevertheless recommended for those interested in natural history and the history of science." David Grann's Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI is this week's starred audiobook. "Recommended for those interested in Native American history, civil rights, and the history of forensic science in this country.... The book is presented by three different narrators: Ann Marie Lee, Will Patton, and Danny Campbell, who reads the author’s voice in the final segment." In graphic novels, Tenements, Towers & Trash: An Unconventional Illustrated History of New York City, by Julia Wertz, is a good choice "for anyone who enjoys graphic nonfiction and biography and especially for those interested in New York City’s various buildings and types of architecture." And in e-originals, Lexi George's Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex is a "joyous romp through a unique paranormal world.... The wide cast of characters and witty interplay make for a rollicking read; highly recommended." See All Xpress Reviews››› |
