The heavily amended measure now heads to the House, which passed a similar measure last month. The governor and his allies overcame concerns about the program’s potential cost by making some concessions to secure the bill’s passage. Gov. Jeff Landry has championed the idea of banning transgender people from using school restrooms and other facilities that align with their gender identity. He's about to get his wish. Controversial House Bill 608 is heading to the governor's desk after the Senate overwhelmingly passed it on Thursday.
