With this first email of the school year, I wanted to introduce our new format: little bites and museum jobs.
Each month, we’ll feature a virtual resource, a fun thing to do at SAAM, and a profile of a museum colleague. Lots of teachers ask about what jobs exist in the museum world, so let’s learn from my amazing coworkers!

| | Meet Stacy Weiland: Program Specialist, Fellows and Interns
What is your job?
I navigate the complicated on-boarding processes and procedures unique to the SI to give SAAM interns and fellows access to artwork, collection, and mentors so they can continue their studies. My main goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and productive experience for our students.
What kind of training is needed to do your job?
My background in retail and customer service was the best training. It entails a lot of managing people: their schedules, following up on paperwork, and dealing with different personalities.
What skill do you use most often?
I spend most of my day troubleshooting: I am often calling IT to get a network account turned back on, tracking down a stipend payment, or waiting for catering to show up at an event.
What’s something that has surprised you about working in museums?
The diversity of career paths of my colleagues. I am blown away with how generous my colleagues are in sharing their experience and aiding our interns and fellows.
What’s something you’re most proud to have done?
I LOVE to hear about the successes of our interns and fellows. I am thrilled to know they scored a job at another institution because of their experience here at SAAM. |
