WEB-FIRST REVIEWS OF BOOKS AND MEDIA
Lady Doctor graphic novel image Agustín Fernández Mallo's The Nocilla Trilogy: Nocilla Dream; Nocilla Experience; Nocilla Lab is this week's starred fiction title. "Readers of Borges, Cortázar, or Vila-Matas, all acknowledged in the text, will embrace the unconventional narration; for others it may be an original yet challenging experience. Its publication marks the first appearance of all three volumes in English in the United States." In nonfiction, Michael Mewshaw's The Lost Prince: A Search for Pat Conroy is a good selection "for Conroy’s many fans and for scholars interested in a fuller picture of the author’s inner conflicts." Ian Williams's The Lady Doctor is this week's starred graphic novel. "Adults and older teens interested in behind-the-scenes medical fiction will find this gripping." And in e-originals, Nicole Flockton's Blind Date Bet, the first title in the "Man’s Best Friend" series, does an excellent job exploring the aftermath of a heartbreaking accident but does not feature [protagonist] Ethan’s canine partner as much as the series title would suggest. This story will appeal to readers who enjoy stories with a strong military service ethic.
