Note to editors WHO will publish its first estimates of infertility prevalence in over a decade. Essential for tracking progress in fertility care coverage, these estimates will highlight the magnitude of infertility as a public health issue globally and the need to expand access to prevention, diagnosis and treatments. Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system, defined by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. It can cause significant distress, stigma, and financial hardship, with negative ramifications for people’s mental and psychosocial well-being.
