A horse-drawn carriage leaves the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Mich. on Friday, May 17, 2024. |

It’s not just an island. It’s like taking a trip in a time machine back to the 1800s where motorized vehicles are not allowed and the only way to get around is by walking, biking, riding a horse or in a horse and buggy.
Travel and Leisure has just listed Mackinac Island as one of the top 15 islands in the continental U.S.
See what criteria was used and learn why Michigan's special gem has the right to be ranked above Martha's Vineyard, Hilton Head and Captiva. |

The tall ship Manitou takes a evening sail in Grand Traverse Bay. |

Cruise lovers, you’ve got a new reason to raise a glass to evenings spent on Grand Traverse Bay.
The Tall Ship Manitou is partnering with award-winning winery Black Star Farms to offer wine-tasting sunset sails around the bay. The wine cruises are set for a handful of dates this summer.
“Come and enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise while tasting the best of one of our local wineries,” Tall Ship Manitou staff said while announcing the new event schedule this week. “This wine-tasting event aboard the schooner Manitou features five different wines from Black Star Farms winery. What better way to enjoy the evening than with the scenic beauty of sailing on Grand Traverse Bay and the rich flavors of local wines?”
We've got details on when the first wine-tasting sets sail and how to book it. Also, have you never been on The Manitou. You've got to get on that schooner. |

Built in 1840, the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses on the Great Lakes. It operated until 1871 when the keeper was transferred to the new, much taller light. It's open for tower climbs throughout the summer. |
|
|
Is one Michigan summer day long enough for one epic lighthouse adventure? You better believe it.
You can explore five stunning lighthouses along Lake Huron's shoreline, all within a two-hour drive of each other.
But where do you start and what's the game plan? We have everything you need here except the snacks. |
