Fires burning across the Hunter | |
| High temperatures and strong winds are fanning a number of fires across the region, with scores of firefighters working to protect properties.
A blaze that hit emergency warning level at Pelaw Main, near Cessnock, on Tuesday was started after a car left the road and caught fire, killing the driver.
There was another emergency level fire at Paterson, while blazes continue to burn near Wollombi and in the Howes Valley. | |

Former Knights star pleads guilty to cocaine supply | |
| Jarrod Mullen has admitted to taking cocaine on a daily basis "just to get through the day".
The former NRL star's downward spiral began when he was banned from playing rugby league for four years in 2017 after testing positive to steroids.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to one charge of supplying cocaine after being arrested in May as part of police investigations into a drug supply ring. | |

| Michael Diamond was a shooting sensation at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the Sydney Games in 2000, winning two gold medals for Australia. But there have been some bumps in the road in recent years.
He sold his gold medal from the Sydney Olympics to pay legal expenses in 2017.
And now he's facing a different challenge - he's been placed on the heart transplant waiting list, with his heart functioning at only 25%. He's now selling his Atlanta medal to pay his medical expenses. | |
