As a child whose two favorite subjects were math and art, she didn't want to just create art, but also to learn the principles of art. Disappointed by the modernist art education offered at Brigham Young University and other universities, she turned away from her interest in art to study history in college. After discovering the Masters Academy of Art in 2011, Emilae began her studies hoping to increase her skills in something she loved, and not necessarily planning on pursuing art as a career. Each summer however, as she returned to study art after finishing her other university courses, she began to perceive that the rigors of this study, following the academic tradition, combined her innate artistic touch with the dedication of mental concentration. During her final semester of undergraduate studies, Emilae committed herself to studying fine art, aspiring to become a painter after the tradition of 19th century naturalist painters. Assisting director Ryan S. Brown as a student-teacher at the Masters Academy, Emilae critiqued the drawing program students three days a week and frequently ran the evening open figure drawing classes. In early 2016 Emilae concluded her formal art education and moved to Poland for a two-year study abroad program for her husband. In the years since then she has moved five times (including to Brazil) and given birth to two boys. Throughout all these changes she always feels a pull to create and visually record her experiences. Today Emilae and her family live in Eagle Mountain, Utah. Creating Art is about Creating Magic. New Artwork by FASO Members Your art could be here tomorrow, for free. |
