Health researchers in Minnesota are among those trying to determine what's behind a fairly sudden increase in children with severe cases of hepatitis. 

Mayo Clinic pediatric infectious disease specialist Dr. Nipunie Rajapakse says worldwide there have been clusters of nearly 300 cases, mostly in the United Kingdom.  

"This has kind of caught a lot of interest," Rajapakse said. "And so people are in the process of trying to first identify cases, especially even going back over the last few months so that we can use the information about these patients to try and understand what is going on."

More than three-quarters of a century after a young soldier from Eveleth, Minn. was killed during a bombing mission over Berlin during World War II, he will finally be buried on May 5, 2022, in Washington's Arlington National Cemetery. Modern science — and family perseverance — helped lead to the identification of the remains.
