Cisco deems remarks racist, fires employees

Cisco Systems fired several employees after they made what the company deemed to be racist remarks last month during a remote video conference about diversity. "Employers should be striving for zero tolerance when it comes to racism and discrimination, period," Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, said.

Cleveland-based American Manufacturing & Engineering revamped its interviewing process and managed to find four of the new welders it needed, all who are under age 25. According to the company, it still asks about welding skills, but it also looks for character, teamwork and work ethic.

Dole Foods has launched a campaign featuring characters from the "Monsters Inc." film to remind consumers they can't judge produce by appearance.
