Nonfarm payrolls rose by 209,000 jobs in July as the unemployment rate declined to 4.3%, according to the Labor Department. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg projected an increase of 180,000 jobs.

Amazon's national interview day draws big crowds

Amazon held a national recruiting day Wednesday in a push to hire 50,000 employees, with a dozen events in cities including Baltimore; Romeoville, Ill.; and Kenosha, Wis. The events drew crowds of applicants for fulfillment-center positions, and many received on-the-spot employment offers, the company said.
