+ Latest Australian research reveals 28,265 cases of aggressive types of early-onset bowel cancer over the past 30 years.

+ Incidence has increased by up to 8 percent per year. If this increase had been halted, an estimated 4,347 bowel cancers in young Australians would not have occurred.

Julie was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer in 2022, at the age of 47. The mum of two is currently living with a diagnosis of incurable bowel cancer and shares the meaningful impact of further funding to accelerate progress in understanding and treating bowel cancer.

"Being a pragmatic patient, I found the generic front line cancer treatment models both frustrating and not person centric.

The 'one size fits all' approach felt outdated and clumsy. So, when I learnt that within Australia, we now have the opportunity to be tested to learn the specific drivers of our cancers I felt excited. With knowledge comes power, and personal power in the cancer journey often feels in short supply.

Having this knowledge allows patients to tailor their treatment more specifically to the drivers of their cancer, essentially taking out ALOT of the guesswork and suffering of unnecessary treatments. It allows patients to be matched to trials that could potentially save their lives and the lives of others in the future.” ~ Julie.
