A coin from ancient India held under a magnifying glass

Economics Professor—and Noted Numismatist

A centuries-old coin may rewrite a key chapter of ancient India history. Among coins from the Gupta dynasty (4th to 6th century AD) found in 1851 were two whose origins were unclear. The mystery would remain for more than 160 years, until a BU economist, and numismatist, set out to crack the puzzle.
