The MSP’s role in making sure contracts align with medical staff bylaws

MSPs should be familiar with all provider contracts, but most importantly, they should know the particulars of exclusive contracts. The chief medical officer and hospital counsel can be valuable resources regarding the details of such agreements. Before any contract is signed, MSPs and leadership should conduct a review of medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations, as well as any applicable credentialing policies, to identify any potential conflicts. That information should be shared with the medical staff.

Report: Physicians earned less in 2022

The average physician earned 2.4% less in compensation in 2022, according to Doximity’s latest Physician Compensation Report. This is after physicians reported a 3.8% increase in compensation in 2021.

New York District Court: Red flags in physician’s history sink discrimination claim

The District Court for the Southern District of New York (the “Court”) granted summary judgment in favor of a health system against a physician’s claim of religious discrimination for not hiring him. The Court found that a reasonable jury could not ultimately find that the physician would have been hired because the credentialing process would have uncovered red flags in the physician’s history, and those red flags would have prevented his application from being sent to the credentials committee for consideration.
